NO! Nabonidus

No, You don’t know it all neither do i…small i (IF YOUūüôā have noticed or not from my previous writings)…little “i” don’t deliberately follow punctuation/capitalization rules (at times to make a).

A limitation of the written word vs. spoken word…modulation, intonation, motive, intent, etc…gestures, facial, emphatic or descriptive…so, how do I…(“i” make attempts of expressing humility/aka acknowledging my personal limitations) convey e~n~t~h~u~s~i~a~s~m or emotion¬†or EMPHASIS e-f-f-e-c-t-i-v-e-l-y through w.r.i.t.i.n.g?!

ūüôā ūüôĀ ;)!!!!!!!!!???????

hey i TRY¬†my creative best…as a learner.

‚ÄúThe human adventure on the face of this planet has been an almost uninterrupted series of crises and disruptions of society‚Äôs established order.‚ÄĚ ~William H. McNeill

And this “adventure” continues much the same…¬†‚ÄúIt does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step.‚ÄĚ (Jeremiah 10:23)

“I have seen something further under the sun, that the swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty win the battle,¬†nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches,¬†nor do those with knowledge always have success,¬†because time and unexpected events*(“Unforeseen Occurrence”) overtake them all. 12¬†For man does not know his time.¬†Just as fish are caught in an evil net and birds are caught in a trap, so the sons of men are ensnared in a time of disaster,*(or calamity)when it suddenly overtakes them.” (Ecclesiastes 9:11, 12)

Some reasonable reasons why i find myself somewhat skeptical of SOME classical or modern historians aka so-called expert accountants/researchers…record keepers…number crunchers. Hey, IF corrupt people from certain corrupt governmental or other organizations/agencies wanna keep their job/survive/look good/IMPRESS/make much money ?…of course, some may corruptly choose to INFLATE numbers/stats in their positive favor to form/construct cathedral….‚Äúsize and sumptuousness [of cathedrals] revealed a number of quite profane motivations.‚ÄĚ Among them was ‚Äúthe arrogant pride of the bishop or abbot under whose patronage the edifice was to be built.‚ÄĚ ~The Horizon Book of Great Cathedrals¬†

ANCIENT historians, like those today, committed to writing only such information as they deemed important or necessary for their purpose. Often the accounts were colored by the prejudices and personal views of the historians. Not infrequently did they resort to outright falsehoods to glorify their particular nation.

an Exodus Example: my highlights

Authenticity of the Exodus Account.¬†An objection against the Exodus account has been that the Pharaohs of Egypt did not make any record of the Exodus. However, this is not unusual, for kings of more modern times have recorded only their¬†victories¬†and not their defeats and have often tried to erase anything historical that is contrary to their personal or nationalistic image or to the ideology they are trying to inculcate in their people. Even in recent times¬†rulers¬†have tried to obliterate the works and reputations of their predecessors. Anything regarded as embarrassing or distasteful was left out of Egyptian inscriptions or effaced as soon as possible. An example is the chiseling away by her successor, Thutmose¬†III, of the name and representation of Queen Hatshepsut on a stone monumental record uncovered at Deir al-Bahri in Egypt.‚Äč‚ÄĒSee¬†Archaeology and Bible History,¬†by J.¬†P.¬†Free, 1964, p.¬†98 and photograph opposite p.¬†94. Attempts at persuasively pushing my buttons??;)…my practical perspective of Man’s Progress…while, at times, manifests as positive-helpful technology, etc. are i.e., like push-button umbrellas;)…useful here in SUPER SUNNY & TORRENTIAL RAINY Florida…however, these do NOT SHIELD ME FROM HURRICANE SEASON!!!…nor do they take this dangerous season away. .

am not trying to be a killjoy…just realistic: Neither will man’s (limited) positive progress take away sin & death…our inheritance from Adam & Eve, our first parents. (We still NEED God!) Nor will man’s inconsistent progress thwart God’s timely trajectory. From my POV, the only permanence which has contributed to humans joyful experiences aka benefitted by throughout centuries is NOT man-made…sun, moon, grass, flower, tree, day, light, apple, night…EARTH…undeniable evidence of a loving-thoughtful-logical Creator/Brilliant Mind/Designer/Sustainer…including Air, gravity, love…speak¬† indirectly or directly of the HIGHEST competency deserving Awe & Praise!:)…(humans seem to want their credit when credit is due.)¬† How about God??

Nabonidus…

The¬†Nabonidus¬†Chronicle.¬†In the latter half of the 19th¬†century, excavations near Baghdad produced many finds of clay tablets and cylinders that threw much light on the history of ancient Babylon. One of these was the very valuable document known as the¬†Nabonidus¬†Chronicle, which is now in the British Museum. King¬†Nabonidusof Babylon was the father of his coregent, Belshazzar. He outlived his son, who was killed on the night that troops of Cyrus the Persian took Babylon, October¬†5, 539¬†B.C.E. (Dan. 5:30,¬†31) The¬†Nabonidus¬†Chronicle, a remarkably well-dated record of the fall of Babylon, helps to establish on what day this event occurred. Following is a translation of a small part of the¬†Nabonidus¬†Chronicle: ‚ÄúIn the month of Tashritu [Tishri (September-October)], when Cyrus attacked the army of Akkad in Opis on the Tigris .¬†.¬†. the 14th day, Sippar was seized without battle.¬†Nabonidus¬†fled. The 16th day [October¬†11, 539¬†B.C.E., Julian, or October¬†5, Gregorian] Gobryas (Ugbaru), the governor of Gutium and the army of Cyrus entered Babylon without battle. Afterwards¬†Nabonidus¬†was arrested in Babylon when he returned (there). .¬†.¬†. In the month of Arahshamnu [Marchesvan (October-November)], the 3rd day [October¬†28, Julian], Cyrus entered Babylon, green twigs were spread in front of him‚Äč‚ÄĒthe state of ‚ÄėPeace‚Äô (sulmu) was imposed upon the city. Cyrus sent greetings to all Babylon. Gobryas, his governor, installed (sub-)governors in Babylon.‚ÄĚ*Ancient Near Eastern Texts,¬†page¬†306. [excerpted¬†Study Number 9‚ÄĒArchaeology and the Inspired Record ‚ÄúAll Scripture‚ÄĚ]

[…], the¬†Nabonidus¬†Chronicle, a statement is found with regard to¬†Nabonidus‚Äô seventh, ninth, tenth, and eleventh regnal years. It reads: ‚ÄúThe king (was) in Tema (while) the prince, the officers, and his army (were) in Akkad [Babylonia].‚ÄĚ (Assyrian and Babylonian Chronicles,¬†by A.¬†K.¬†Grayson, 1975, p.¬†108) Apparently¬†Nabonidus¬†spent much of his reign away from Babylon, and while not relinquishing his position as supreme ruler, he entrusted administrative authority to his son Belshazzar to act during his absence. This is evident from a number of texts recovered from the ancient archives proving that Belshazzar exercised royal prerogatives, that he issued orders and commands. Matters handled by Belshazzar in certain documents and orders were those that would normally have been handled by¬†Nabonidus, as supreme ruler, had he been present. However, Belshazzar remained only second ruler of the empire, and thus he could offer to make Daniel only ‚Äúthe third one in the kingdom.‚ÄĚ‚Äč‚ÄĒDa 5:16. [Belshazzar, Insight Vol. 1]

Testimony of Chronicle…

THE fall of strongly fortified Babylon came with a suddenness that must have surprised the ancient world. The conqueror, Cyrus the Great, diverted the waters of the Euphrates River that coursed through the city. Then his forces marched through the riverbed, taking the city by surprise through the unlocked gates along the quay. In one night Babylon fell, ending centuries of Semitic supremacy and fulfilling Jehovah‚Äôs word spoken through his prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah.‚Äč‚ÄĒIsa. 44:27;45:1,¬†2;¬†Jer. 50:38;¬†51:30-32.

The¬†Nabonidus¬†Chronicle¬†(also known as the ‚ÄúCyrus-Nabonidus¬†Chronicle‚ÄĚ and ‚ÄúThe Annalistic Tablet of Cyrus‚ÄĚ), though very brief, contains the most complete extant cuneiform record concerning the fall of Babylon. This fragmentary clay tablet measures approximately five and a¬†half inches in breadth at its widest point and about the same in length. On the basis of the script style, scholars have concluded that the tablet may date from some time in the Seleucid period (312-65¬†B.C.E.). But historians claim the inscription is probably a copy of an earlier document. As it tends to glorify Cyrus while presenting¬†Nabonidus¬†in a disparaging way, the thought has been advanced that the inscription was the work of a Persian scribe and has even been referred to as ‚ÄúPersian propaganda.‚ÄĚ Nonetheless, the ‚Äúcircumstantial data‚ÄĚ is considered to be reliable. Babylon & Babylon the Great…lessons for learning humility:¬† such a deep topic…that i only have “surface” time to briefly address…Basically, The Creator–TRUE God of Bible, God of Love & Compassion, Power, Wisdom, and Real Justice/Slow to Anger…doesn’t care much for pride and arrogance among puny/stupid humans which causes many millions to suffer needlessly!:( The rise and fall of specific world powers have been prophesied accurately in the Bible. Clear warnings made by pleading prophets…”please change for the better because your unkind deeds will come back to you.” “Your hurtful ways are ungodly ways.” “Plus, the God of love whom you claim to worship and honor, you are, in fact, dishonoring by your hurtful/ungodly/murderous practices.”¬† There are numerous distinctions made in the Bible between Godly Ones and Ungodly Ones. (It usually turns out well/better for the Godly Ones…and long-term.)

Here goes some readings for You IF You:) so choose…

The judgment pronounced against the Babylonian dynasty provides a valuable lesson for us. The root of the Babylonian kings‚Äô sin was their endless ambition. (Daniel 5:23) Their hearts were filled with a desire for power. They wanted to dominate others. (Isaiah 47:5,¬†6) And they lusted after glory from men, which rightly belongs to God. (Revelation 4:11) This is a warning to any in authority‚Äč‚ÄĒ[…]

Ambition and selfish pride are characteristics that Jehovah will not tolerate, either in individuals or in nations.

29. The pride and ambition of the Babylonian rulers was a reflection of what?

29¬†The pride of the Babylonian rulers was a reflection of the spirit of ‚Äúthe god of this system of things,‚ÄĚ Satan the¬†Devil. (2¬†Corinthians 4:4) He too lusts for power and longs to place himself above Jehovah God. As was the case with the king of Babylon and the people he subjugated, Satan‚Äôs unholy ambition has resulted in misery and suffering for all mankind.

30. What other Babylon is mentioned in the Bible, and what spirit has she shown?

30¬†Moreover, in the book¬†of¬†Revelation, we read¬†of¬†another¬†Babylon‚Äč‚ÄĒ‚ÄúBabylon¬†the Great.‚ÄĚ (Revelation 18:2) This organization, the world empire¬†of¬†false religion, has also shown a prideful, oppressive, and cruel spirit. As a result, she too has to face a ‚Äúday¬†of¬†Jehovah‚ÄĚ and be destroyed in God‚Äôs due time. (Isaiah 13:6) Since 1919 the message has sounded around the earth: ‚ÄúBabylon¬†the Great has fallen!‚ÄĚ (Revelation 14:8) When she was unable to hold God‚Äôs people in captivity, she experienced a¬†fall. Soon she will be completely destroyed.¬†Of¬†ancient¬†Babylon, Jehovah commanded: ‚ÄúPay back to her according to her activity. According to all that she has done, do to her. For it is against Jehovah that she has acted presumptuously, against the Holy One¬†of¬†Israel.‚ÄĚ (Jeremiah 50:29;¬†James 2:13)¬†Babylon¬†the Great will receive a similar judgment.

31. What will soon happen to Babylon the Great?

31¬†Hence, Jehovah‚Äôs final statement of this prophecy in the book of Isaiah applies not only to ancient Babylon but also to Babylon the Great:¬†‚ÄúI will rise up against them .¬†.¬†. And I will cut off from Babylon name and remnant and progeny and posterity .¬†.¬†. And I will make her a possession of porcupines and reedy pools of water, and I will sweep her with the broom of annihilation.‚Ä̬†(Isaiah 14:22,¬†23)¬†The desolated ruins of ancient Babylon show what Jehovah will soon do to Babylon the Great. What a comfort for lovers of true worship! What an encouragement to strive never to allow the satanic characteristics of pride, arrogance, or cruelty to develop in us! [excerpted Jehovah Humbles an Arrogant City, Isaiah’s Prophecy I]

Questions for Reflections: “circumstantial” data can be useful…

(1) am i arrogant?

(2) am i cruel?

(3) am i full of pride?

meticulous historical (accurate not arrogant, classical & modern) accounting teaches…an emerging pattern:¬† pride, cruelty, and arrogance, ambition (among individuals and/or nations) does not end well!!…these negative traits are not survivable.¬† Humans exhibiting these END; sometimes swiftly…getting swept away…swept along into annihilation… (suddenly).

BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM—house cleaning an essential to sustaining life; eventually God gets around to it (as the Bible states). Babylon the Great’s Destiny is Destruction!

just making sure, i don’t let/am not letting these/any negative traits grow in (take over and destroy) me personally or anyone i love.

(Feeding the Good helps, huh?:))

Your destiny, Your choice!

GET OUT OF BABYLON THE GREAT…and SURVIVE!!:)

Peace Survivor:)
