Literal watchmen often stood on the walls of a city to help keep the inhabitants safe. They served as tangible evidence that the ruler of the city cared for his subjects. Although a blast from a watchman’s horn might startle sleeping residents, the same piercing call could save lives of those who responded to it. Similarly Yahweh/Jehovah appointed watchmen, not because he wanted to terrorize the Israelites with messages of doom, but because he cared for his people and wanted to save lives.
When appointed Ezekiel to be a watchman. Jehovah revealed aspects of his personality that we find reassuring. Consider just two of these attributes:
Justice: Jehovah’s justice is evident in that he deals impartially with us as individuals. For example, although Ezekiel’s message was heard and rejected by large crowds, Jehovah did not treat the Israelites as a rebellious mob; rather, he wanted to see how individuals responded. He repeatedly speaks about talking to the “wicked one” and to “someone righteous.” Therefore, Jehovah passes judgment based on how each individual reacts to the message.–Ezek. 33:8, 18-20.
7. On what basis does Jehovah judge people?
7 Jehovah’s justice can also be seen by the way in which he judges people. Individuals are held accountable, not for what they did in the past, but for how they respond to the current warning. Jehovah told Ezekiel: “When I say to the wicked one: ‘You will surely die,’ and he turns away from his sin and does what is just and righteous, . . . he will surely keep living.” Then Jehovah adds a remarkable statement: “None of the sins he committed will be held against him.” (Ezek. 33:14-16) On the other hand, those who followed a righteous path cannot expect past obedience to excuse current rebellion. Jehovah stated that if a man “trusts in his own righteousness and does what is wrong, none of his righteous acts will be remembered, but he will die for the wrong that he has done.”—Ezek. 33:13.
8. What do prophetic warnings teach us about Jehovah’s justice?
8 Jehovah’s sense of justice is further evident in that he gives due warning before he acts. Ezekiel began his work some six years before the Babylonian army destroyed Jerusalem. But Ezekiel was not the first to warn God’s people that they would be held accountable. For more than a century prior to the destruction of Jerusalem, Jehovah sent the prophets Hosea, Isaiah, Micah, Oded, and Jeremiah to act as watchmen. Jehovah had Jeremiah remind the Israelites: “I appointed watchmen who said, ‘Pay attention to the sound of the horn!’” (Jer. 6:17) Neither Jehovah nor those watchmen could be held accountable for the lives lost when the Babylonians finally executed Jehovah’s judgment.
Love: Jehovah displayed loyal love by sending his watchmen to warn not only the righteous but also the wicked—the very ones who broke his heart and tarnished his reputation. Just think—the Israelites were known as Jehovah’s people, but they repeatedly turned their backs on him and ran after false gods! Jehovah conveyed the depth of his emotional pain at this betrayal by likening the nation to an adulterous wife. (Ezek. 16:32) Even so, Jehovah did not give up on them quickly. He sought reconciliation, not revenge. He wielded the sword of judgment as a last resort, not a first response. Why? He told Ezekiel: “I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that someone wicked changes his way and keeps living.” (Ezek. 33:11) That was how Jehovah felt back then, and it is how Jehovah feels today.—Mal. 3:6.
10, 11. What lessons can we learn from Jehovah’s dealings with his people?
10 What can we learn from the just and loving way that Jehovah dealt with the Israelites? One lesson is that we must view the people […], not as part of a faceless crowd, but as unique individuals. What a mistake it would be to prejudge a person as unworthy […]because of his past conduct or because of his ethnic, tribal, economic, or language background! Jehovah taught the apostle Peter a lesson that resonates today: “God is not partial, but in every nation the man who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.”—Acts 10:34, 35. “Look! I am coming as a thief. Happy is the one that stays awake and keeps his outer garments.”—REVELATION 16:15.
When Jesus said, “Happy is the one that stays awake and keeps his outer garments,” he may have alluded to a procedure then followed that involved guard duty at the temple. The Jewish Mishnah says: “The priests kept watch at three places in the Temple: at the Chamber of Abtinas, at the Chamber of the Flame, and at the Chamber of the Hearth; and the levites at twenty-one places: five at the five gates of the Temple Mount, four at its four corners inside, five at five of the gates of the Temple Court, four at its four corners outside, and one at the Chamber of Offerings, and one at the Chamber of the Curtain, and one behind the place of the Mercy Seat [outside the rear wall of the Most Holy]. The officer of the Temple Mount used to go round to every watch with lighted torches before him, and if any watch did not stand up and say to him, ‘O officer of the Temple Mount, peace be to thee!’ and it was manifest that he was asleep, he would beat him with his staff, and he had the right to burn his raiment.”—The Mishnah, Middoth (“Measurements”), 1, paragraphs 1-2, translated by Herbert Danby.
Filters need changing (my own included)…cleaning to function properly. I encourage You reader to PAY ATTENTION/KEEP ON THE WATCH..CLEAN/CHANGE YOUR FILTER. (i will try my best to do the same, of course.)
Avoiding overindulgence will help us to stay spiritually awake. When speaking about his presence, Jesus urged his apostles: “Pay attention to yourselves that your hearts never become weighed down with overeating and heavy drinking and anxieties of life, and suddenly that day be instantly upon you as a snare. For it will come in upon all those dwelling upon the face of all the earth.” (Luke 21:7, 34, 35) Gluttony and drunkenness are out of harmony with Bible principles. (Deuteronomy 21:18-21) Proverbs 23:20, 21 says: “Do not come to be among heavy drinkers of wine, among those who are gluttonous eaters of flesh. For a drunkard and a glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe one with mere rags.”—Proverbs 28:7. [excerpted reading: Happy are those Who Stay Awake! w ’97]
Peace & Security??…excerpted AWAKE! No. 1 2019
Do you believe that mankind can solve the many problems that rob us of peace and security and that threaten our future? To be effective, any cure must surely address the root causes of our troubles, not just the symptoms.
To illustrate, a patient named Tom was sick and later died. Why did he die? “When his first symptoms appeared, no one thought to search for their underlying cause,” wrote the doctor whose hospital received Tom shortly before he died. It seems that Tom’s earlier caregivers had simply given him medication to make him feel better.
Are humans taking a similar approach to the world’s ills? For example, in fighting crime, governments enact laws, install video surveillance, and strengthen police forces. But these measures, while effective to some extent, do not address underlying causes. After all, behavior usually reflects attitudes, beliefs, and desires.
An ancient book of wisdom rightly states:
“The inclination of the heart of man is bad from his youth up.”—Genesis 8:21.
“The heart is more treacherous than anything else and is desperate. Who can know it?”—Jeremiah 17:9
“Out of the heart come wicked reasonings, murders, . . . sexual immorality, thefts, false testimonies.”—Matthew 15:19.
Mankind has been unable to find a cure for the hurtful traits that lurk within us.
There are humble ones out there..searching for Truth…living Truth and courageously working on any “hurtful that lurks within”…and with the help of the Bible…a Worthwhile/Noble Pursuit. 🙂
Knowing my “human” limitations/weaknesses…my personal inner battles is useful and, therefore, i remain politically neutral.

ARE WE ATTEMPTING THE IMPOSSIBLE?
Even if by some miracle we could cure mankind’s hurtful traits, we would still be unable to make the world safe and secure for all. The reason? Our human limitations.
The simple truth is this: “It does not belong to man . . . even to direct his step.” (Jeremiah 10:23) Yes, we were not created to govern ourselves. In fact, we were no more created to rule over our fellow humans than we were created to live under water or in outer space!
