This post is partially-inspired by (at least) 2 Roberts…1 my Dear Brother; the Other A Poet:
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. In a recent en "light" ening talk my Brother gave--he spoke about electricity: how it ALWAYS takes the path of least resistance. Questions for self-examination: What path am i taking (in life)?! Is it the path of least resistance? and where does that particular path ultimately lead? What pattern path...trail am i blazing for myself/my mind??
“Go in through the narrow gate, because broad is the gate and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are going in through it; 14 whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are finding it.” (Matthew 7: 13, 14)
The popular/majority course/road of conformity–aka the easy path (of pleasure/comfort only for oneself) doesn’t lead to life (eternal)…it leads to over-indulgence/self-indulgence/people-pleasing/people-hurting aka giving in to any/all types of (peer) pressures, vanities, violence, fantasies, damaging decisions, etc. (“Temporary” Survival for some means: the easy road of least resistance.) Some give up and give in to negative influences (knowingly/unknowingly)…which creates dentrites of non-compassionate patterns…our minds/behaviors are being molded…seemingly either along the path of our personal comfort zone or a non-comfort/non-conformists zone. There are compassion heroes among us…true leaders…who have built/are building a mind muscle resistant to negative pressure, hate, rejection, pain, isolation, persecution, etc. (Those who are willing/courageous enough to stand up or sit out or speak up or speak out against and not follow the crowd–when the crowd is bent on violence, rape, rampage.)
Think about any (serious) body/mind builder knows the benefits of “resistance” training to build muscle (i.e. metabolic resistance training). It’s hard core to choose a life “different” (or to stand out as different) from those around You and/or from family, big religion, popular traditions, fads, trends, primary education, etc…Risking rejection, hatred, persecution…etc. cause You think differently, act differently and are a non-conformist to popular belief. It takes self-control/spiritual discipline. (Personally, i’ve battled/rejected/resisted the “spacious” road many of us easily find…the one easy to travel…and most of my life.)…which makes me a Bible-reading-geek, seeker of ancient-wisdom, peace pursuer/conscientious objector, non-drinker, materially poor, primitive Christian (aka follower of Compassion/Agape love)…a boney/skinny odd ball to many!;)…the path is painful..but no pain, no compassion gain! We all experience growing pains..young/old..and my hope is to always walk progressively along the compassion path/the cramped road!
Everybody has a choice–not everyone knows/understands/is educated enough about their options…or sees the long-term positive or negative results of a particular path of choice. That’s why true compassion education...on-going/life-long is vital to eternal survival of the human race!! (Yeah, our brains may be messed up..but we can clean up–learn/unlearn…with patience, forgiveness, divine help, agape education. :))
God “consecrated” right for all fellow fragile life to be treated with compassion, dignity, respect and agape love!:)
